In August 2006, Winterthur made his breed show debut in style at the EEMI Too Hot to Trot Summer Breed Show I, winning a competitive yearling colts/geldings class with an 83.3%, a score which held to be the highest given on the day. Winterthur went on to win the Colt Championship, Young Horse Championship and Grand Championship, as well as the American Hanoverian Society award for highest placed Hanoverian. In addition, he qualified for the USDF Breeders Championship at Dressage at Devon.
At the EEMI Too Hot to Trot Summer Breed Show I Winterthur repeated his win of the large yearling colts/geldings class, scoring 80.9% and went on to capture the Colt Championship, qualifying for the USDF Breeders Championship for a second time. For the two shows, Winterthur posted scores from 8.0 to 8.5 for conformation, walk, trot and general impression. Judges comments included: “Shows good engagement and freedom; clear uphill balance; elastic; big overstep; good dressage prospect; nice stallion prospect.”
Winterthur then went on to win the huge and competitive yearling colts/geldings class at the nation's most prestigious breed show on the calendar, Dressage at Devon 2006, scoring 78.3%, and went on to place 6th in the USDF Breeders Championship for Colts/Geldings. Judges comments included: “Elegant head and neck; elegant type; covers ground well; has uphill balance with suspension.”
